The definition of acne is a type of skin disease that affects millions of teens and adults alike, sometimes throughout their life. Acne can be described as a condition that causes red and inflamed skin often causing cysts and lesions to form. It can range from simple rash like symptoms to more serious nodular acne. Acne and pimples are especially prevalent during teenage adolescence. Most people get acne at some point during their course of their life. A lot of research has been conducted on the causes of acne and many products have been created for acne treatment and prevention.

In order to comprehend what is acne, it is vital to first comprehend what a basic hair follicle looks like. In basic terms, a hair follicle lies within the skin and a hair grows out of it. At the end of a hair follicle, there is oil called sebum, which is produced by the sebaceous glands. Sebum aids in keeping the skin healthy. However, whenever hair follicles get clogged, excessive sebum will accumulate under the skin. When this happens, bacteria will begin to form and irritate the skin to cause acne.

Even though many people associate acne as swollen, red, and having pus also known as zits or pimples, acne can also take on other forms including dormant pimples known as comedones. Pimple comedones can come in two forms including blackheads and whiteheads. Blackheads are formed when there is to much oil within the duct of sebaceous glands When the oil on the surface oxidizes, it turns black. Meanwhile, whiteheads are formed when sebum and bacteria are combined inside a blocked hair follicle staying beneath the skin’s surface. They can be quite small and hard to spot with the naked eye. A lot of times, the inside wall of the skin breaks because of the inner pressure of the comedone or due to squeezing acne. Over time, the sebum and bacteria will dry up and the skin will begin to heal.

At this stage, the pimple is located well below the skin. The acne forms when the white blood cells attacks the bacteria that tries to move to the surface of the skin. This is what causes the large bump of white and yellow pus. Severe acne can lead to serious inflamed skin along with cysts and acne scarring.

Acne is a skin condition that has been around for a long time. To this day, even with all the modern advances in medicine, doctors still do not fully comprehend the many different facets of acne. The causes of acne are many and varied including hygiene, diet, genetics, and stress to name a few. Just like acne causes, there are just as many ways to treat acne including using a number of lotions and benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid creams. Also, let’s not forget one of the best and simplest ways to deal with acne is to maintain clean skin by washing your face regularly with warm water and a mild soap. This will reduce the amount of oil on the skin and help prevent clogged pores that can lead to comedones and pimples.

Sometimes finding the right dermatologist can be tough, especially when you do not know what you are looking for. Your skin problems are important to you, and you need to find a doctor that is knowledgeable in find patients the right acne solution. There are many dermatologists that are in practice; however, not all are created equal. Some dermatologists have better credentials and more experience with certain skin problems, such as wrinkles or acne. Lets discuss the important information you should know before choosing a dermatologist to treat and care for your skin.

Use the Internet to locate different dermatologists in your area. Nothing speaks louder about the professionalism and practice of a doctor more than his or her patients. Read the reviews for each dermatologist, if available, and find out what others have to say about their experience. You could also ask your friends and your community to help you get information on a particular dermatology practice. No matter what you purchase in life, whether it be a new TV or the help of a skin care professional, always read and listen to the reviews of the customer.

Once you find a dermatologist that has excellent reviews and feedback, find out if the doctor is board-certified. This means that the doctor is knowledgeable in different areas of dermatology, and passed an exam proving this knowledge. A good dermatologist will want to get the appropriate testing done to prove to customers that he or she is dependable and cares about the field of dermatology.

The next step is to make sure the dermatologist that you are interested in seeing is specialized in the area in which you seek. For example, if you want to see a dermatologist because you have cystic acne, you will want to make sure that dermatologist has experience in this area of skin care, and is up to date with the current trends and products out on the market.

Once you find a dermatologist, make an appointment to discuss your skin care issues. A wonderful dermatologist listens to what you are saying without interrupting, and cares about you as a person, in hopes of addressing and treating the skin care problem you are having. The doctor should have great manners, and should not be pushy or in a rush. A good dermatology practice should be made up of friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff members.

Sadly to say, there are some dermatology practices that only care about the money coming in more so then the care of the patients. You should never feel obligated to purchase any products or additional services. Insurance companies usually do not cover any sort of skin care products for insurance holders, which means that everything you purchase in a dermatologist’s office will be out of pocket. Make sure whatever you do purchase will help your skin, and find out if there is a money back guarantee if the product being offered to you does not work.

There are many good dermatologist practices available to help people with their skin care needs. A little research and some patience can help you find a wonderful dermatologist that is caring, friendly, and professional.

Although it is neglected by many people, taking care of your skin should be the first step to any acne treatment. Often times, preventative skin care is the first line of defense against acne and will help to minimize the future occurrences of acne breakouts. Below are a number of steps that patients can follow to take better care of their skin:

How to Wash Your Face

Proper skin care involves washing your face with a mild facial cleaner, once in the morning, and an another time at night, and especially after a hard work out. When washing the face, begin under the chin toward the hair line. It is very important to always thoroughly rinse the skin after each washing.

Shaving with Acne:

For men that need to shave and have acne, they may need to try safety razors or electric razors in order to decide which method is more comfortable for them. For those that use safety razors, using a sharp blade is advised. Also, it is best to soften facial hair with water and soap before you apply shaving cream.

Avoiding Sunlight and Tanning:

The sun’s rays are damaging to our skin and can cause cancer. In particular, patients taking acne medication are especially at risk. Remember that prescription medication that anyone may take for treating acne can cause him or her to have increased sun sensitivity, which results in sun damage through sun burns.

Avoid Touching Your Face:

Acne sufferers are strongly advised to avoid rubbing or touching their skin lesions. It is strongly advised to avoid squeezing acne because it is a sure fire way to make your acne worse and getting acne scars afterward.

Cosmetics for Acne Skin:

If you are currently undergoing an acne treatment, you might have to avoid using certain cosmetics that will block your pores. Ideally, your cosmetics should be free of oil and contain “non-comedogenic” on the label. If you are not sure, check with your dermatologist.

Use Warm Compresses to Calm the Skin:

Applying hot compresses to cysts and pustules can improve their condition. Use a clean napkin and soak it with warm water and apply it to each cyst for one minute. This will help to calm the cystic acne.

Killing Acne Bacteria:

Use an antibacterial facial cleaner that has benzoyl peroxide as one of its ingredients to kill bacteria. There are also other types of skin products including gels, lotions, and creams. Tea tree oil can also be applied on the face with a cotton swab as it is a known natural antiseptic.

Controlling Excess Oil:

Although the amount of oil produced on your skin is largely a result of heredity, excessive oil can still be controlled. In order to control the extra oil on your face, people need to use a proper moisturizer after washing their face. In addition, it is wise to invest in a good toner or other skin care products that contain glycolic acid. Also, using weekly masks that have sulfur for absorbing facial oil can be beneficial.

When acne makes its entrance onto your face, the first thing you think about is how to get rid of it. Battling acne can be devastating for a lot of people, especially those who suffer from cystic acne. There is no cure for acne to keep it from ever returning, but there are acne medicine products that are on the market to help prevent and get rid of current acne. Deciding on the best acne medicine for you will depend on the severity of your acne and your goals for therapy. A complete skin assessment will need to be completed and your health history examined. Know that treating acne, depending on the stage of acne that you do have, could take weeks, months, or even years to improve.

Over the counter acne products work great for people who only have mild acne. You do not need a prescription from your doctor, and you can visit your local drug store or pharmacy to find products suited to your skin. There are products that contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and antibacterial properties. When you apply these products, make sure to apply them to the entire skin area, and not just to the pimple. If dryness occurs, limit your usage to once a day and use a mild soap to wash your face. Keeping your skin hydrated is also important. Find a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic. This means that it will not clog pores or cause further irritation of the skin.

Sometimes over the counter products do not help, especially with severe cases of acne. Talk to your doctor about a prescription acne medication that is right for your skin conditions. A higher strength of benzoyl peroxide can help reduce oil on the skin, and kill off the P. acnes bacteria. Retinoids are the most effective prescription acne medications for unblocking pores and reducing bacteria of the skin. Isotretinoin can be very effective in eliminating acne. It helps to change the structure of the sebaceous glands so that the production of excess oil is decreased and levels are stabilized. This medication can also help to reduce scarring caused by acne.

Topical or oral antibiotics are another option for those who suffer from acne. Antibiotics, such as Tetracycline, can reduce inflammation and bacteria. This is also helpful for those who have acne on other parts of the body other than the face. Tetracycline is one of the first antibiotics that your doctor will probably suggest, and it is the least expensive. It also comes with a few common side effects such as sunlight sensitivity, upset stomach, and yeast infections.

The best acne treatment depends on the individual and his or her acne concerns. Remember, if you are using over the counter products do not give up hope if you do not notice a difference in your acne right away. Sometimes it can take up to 8 weeks to start noticing a difference. Be sure to take all prescription medications as directed by your doctor. Keeping up with a skin care regimen and treatment plan can help eliminate acne.

Natural home remedies work wonders to help fade acne marks or scars. You do not have to visit a dermatologist or spend lots of money on different treatments and medications. No need to worry about unsafe risks or side effects. You can take control of your skin in the comfort of your own home by using natural remedies that work to help produce healthy looking skin.

One of the most important natural home remedies is maintaining a healthy diet. Chocolate, junk food, and soda do not cause acne. Remember, no matter what you eat or drink, acne is not created by what you put into your body. However, by eating properly and drinking a lot of water, you can keep your skin hydrated and remove unwanted skin cells. A diet high in protein (chicken, fish, beans, etc.) can help with the growth of new cells. Fresh fruits and vegetables have many healthy skin promoting vitamins and minerals to help fade acne marks. Feed your body what it needs so that your skin can receive the proper nourishment it needs to remain healthy.

Did you know that cucumbers are a natural antiseptic? Not only do cucumbers help energize your mood, they also help with bacteria on the skin. The juice from the cucumber helps to reduce inflammation and redness caused by acne. This is why many people use cucumber slices over their eyes in order to reduce puffiness. It is even said that the beautiful Cleopatra used cucumber to help her skin stay hydrated, firm, and healthy. Cucumbers will help fade acne marks with their natural healing properties.

Baking soda has served as a natural home remedy for several different conditions. Not only does baking soda help whiten teeth, but it also helps to reduce scarring left over by acne. It is a natural exfoliate that helps to remove the epidermis layer of the skin, promoting new skin growth. This works the same way as microdermabrasion does except it is a natural and cheaper remedy that will help fade acne marks. Mix baking soda with water until it is the right consistency for you. Apply the mixture to your skin and work in a circular motion for about a minute. Rinse with cool water. Your skin will have a fresh and healthy glow.

Another natural home remedy to help fade acne marks is aloe vera. Known as the “miracle plant,” aloe vera has several healing properties that will help treat acne and scars. The best way to make the most out of aloe vera is to obtain the gel straight from the plant. This gel is a natural moisturizer and anti-inflammatory. By using the gel, you will keep your skin hydrated and reduce redness and inflammation in the process. The sap from the plant soaks into your skin, helping to generate new skin cells and growth. Aloe vera is a natural healing agent, and will help to fade acne scars.

Extra virgin olive oil is a wonderful oil that can help minimize acne scars. Olive oil contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants that help regenerate the skin. Mixing olive oil with chamomile and applying it to your skin will help to lighten scars and soften the skin. They both work great in conjunction with one another since chamomile contains natural skin lightening properties to reduce scarring.

Natural home remedies are a great way to promote healthy skin. Find a method that works best for you, and do not give up if one does not do the trick. Remember, everyone’s skin is different, and sometimes it takes trial and error to find the right natural treatment for your acne scars.

Teenagers are not the only ones who suffer from acne. Early aged to middle aged adults also go through the acne motions. The elderly mostly have experiences with whiteheads or blackheads. Let’s face it, acne is everywhere and it is not going away. The only thing to do is try to prevent it, and lessen the effects when acne does make its way onto your skin. Acne is not the end of the world. Everyone goes through a stage of acne at different points in their lives, especially during puberty and hormonal fluctuations. The best skin care for acne depends on each individual and their acne situation. Some people have mild acne, such as pimples here and there, and others experience cysts which can be extremely painful and scar forming.

There are hundreds of different products on the market to help with acne. Most of these products include cleansers that contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Clearasil is a popular brand of acne products that help remove excess oil, sweat, dirt and dead skin cells. Clean & Clear has been around for a long time assisting with getting rid of acne. The products work great for mild and occasional acne, and should only be used once or twice a day since drying of the skin can occur.

Another skin care for acne product is Cetaphil. This product works wonderful for those who have very sensitive skin. This cleanser removes oil and dirt without aggravating the skin. It is also unscented and allergen free. Cetaphil is dermatologist recommended. You can also purchase a moisturizer that will keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores or causing irritation.

If your acne is more severe, then you should see your doctor. You may need a topical antibiotic, such as erythromycin, to help kill bacteria on the skin that causes acne. Lower strengths of benzoyl peroxide can be obtained over the counter; however, stronger strengths will need a prescription. Your doctor may provide you a stronger medicated benzoyl peroxide cream to apply to the skin. There are also retinoids, such as isotretinoin and adapalene, that your doctor may suggest that you try to help reduce oil on the skin and to unclog pores.

Birth control pills are an option for teenaged girls and women only. Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Estrostep, and Yaz have all been approved by the FDA for treating acne. Contraceptives help to balance out hormones, and reduce the amount of excess sebum that causes bacteria to form around the follicles. Acne is then prevented and can be controlled. Most girls and women notice a huge difference in their complexion while using birth control pills.

There are many products and methods available that can help defeat acne. Finding skin care products or obtaining the assistance of your doctor for stronger medications is the first step in eliminating your acne. You must follow through with your daily skin care regimen and keep your skin clean. Drink lots of water to remove toxins from the body, and get proper night time rest. It is when the body is at rest when the skin kicks into a healing ritual process, which can help clear up your skin.

Sometimes acne likes to mark the territory of where it occurred on its victim’s skin, leaving behind unwanted scars and self-esteem issues. Let’s face it, acne is a bummer, and once a certain infected area is cleared up with the proper acne treatment, the minor to severe scarring that is left as a reminder can make anyone miserable. Who needs the constant reminder of an acne that once was? The good news is that there is an acne scarring treatment option available that is very cost effective.

One of the best methods in helping to remove acne scarring is by the use of chemical peels. Alpha hydroxy, a gentle chemical, can be applied to the affected skin for a certain amount of time, ridding the area of current tissue cells. This encourages new cell growth that promotes the healthy look of new skin. Chemical peels can help aid in the acne scar removal process by allowing old skin to become new skin.

There are several different chemical peels that are being offered on the Internet when it comes to the best treatment for acne scars. However, it is important that you do not purchase these peels and attempt to apply them at your own convenience. It is critical that you visit a dermatologist or a board certified surgeon that has experience in acne scar removal. A qualified professional will sit down with you and go over your skin history. A skin evaluation will be performed to help decide the best treatment for acne scars based on your individual needs. Keep in mind, deep scarring caused by acne may need to be treated with a method more intense than chemical peels.

Two of the best and mildest chemicals used in helping to remove acne scarring is alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy. Both can help in reducing acne and the scarring left behind by acne. Chemical peels can be used anywhere on the body where acne and scars reside. For very mild cases, glycolic acid may be used to help get rid of dead skin cells, allowing the skin to breathe and decreasing blemishes in the process.

After a chemical peel, your skin may feel like a sunburn. Do not worry about this side effect because the redness will begin to fade within a few hours. Stronger peels may take longer for the redness to completely fade away. In most cases a few days, but it is important to keep the skin moisturized with an oil-free and dermatologist approved SPF moisturizer.

A more aggressive form of acne scarring treatment may consist of a more intense chemical peel. In such cases, trichloroacetic acid is used to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. It is important to understand that rough treatments come with rough side effects. Extreme dry skin and flaking can result from using a trichloroacetic acid chemical peel. Discuss the different options and side effects with your doctor to figure out the best route to take to help remove acne scarring and blemishes.

If you are a teenaged girl or woman, then you may be experiencing acne breakouts on your skin during certain times of the month or year. Hormones can wreck havoc on your skin during puberty, menstrual cycles, stress, pregnancy and menopause. It is no fun when we get an unwanted pimple right in the center of our face. Sometimes the whole world stops in order to find out the best possible treatment method to get rid of that annoying red bump. Fortunately, birth control pills are a great option for teenaged girls and adult women to help lessen the signs of acne during hormonal changes.

When a girl reaches puberty, the hormones estrogen, progestin and testosterone become very unstable and can cause chaos inside of the body which results in acne. Birth control pills are a relief for teenaged girls because they notice a significant change in their skin when they start taking the pill. Adult women also experience improvement in their acne around their menstrual cycle while being on birth control.

There are three different types of birth control pills for acne that are approved by the FDA: Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Estrostep, and Yaz. These pills are mostly made up of estrogen and progestin, which conquer hormonal fluctuation that is causing the increase of oil production that results in acne. Acne starts when hormones affect the sebaceous glands, and these glands produce more sebum than necessary. P. acnes, a natural bacteria of the skin, feeds off of the sebum and increases during hormonal changes. As a result, the follicles become inflamed and infected, causing acne to form on the skin.

There are side effects to consider when using birth control pills for acne. One of the biggest disadvantages of birth control is the increase in hunger. Some women experience weight gain because the estrogen in birth control pills can cause sodium retention. There are many things you can do to prevent the pounds from piling on. Make sure to spend a few days a week exercising. Be sure to stick to a healthy diet, and limit your intake of high sodium foods.

Some women experience mood swings while taking birth control pills. Depending on the levels of new hormones being introduced, the alterations could cause moodiness. Once the hormones become stable, the mood swings often go away; however, if they do not, consult with your doctor to find a pill that has a lesser amount of a particular hormone, such as progestin.

Birth control pills are a wonderful alternative to an acne medication that could have very severe side effects, such as Accutane. It is best to use birth control with acne fighting products for an added benefit. Check with your local drug store or pharmacy to find out what works best for teenaged or adult hormonal acne. Find a product that contains salicylic acid to help reduce oil and breakouts. Sometimes a spot treatment is also good for managing that unsightly pimple that you want gone by morning. Apply a spot treatment in the evening before you go to bed.

By using birth control pills, teenagers and adult women can manage their acne breakouts during those frustrating times of hormonal changes. Be consistent, incorporate a healthy diet, and use an acne fighting skin care regimen along with birth control.

Acne is a skin condition that targets teenagers, young adults, and even some older adults. It is a never-ending cycle that affects millions of people each and every day. No matter who you are, acne has been a part of your life sometime or another. Unfortunately, there are no cures for acne; however, these annoying bumps can be managed through proper acne solutions and antibiotics. Once acne is under control, sometimes scars are left behind reminding the victim of their bad acne days. Not only can this be emotionally devastating, but acne scars can have a huge effect on an individual’s personal, family, and professional life.

Mederma is a formula that was developed to help reduce the appearance of scars and other skin conditions. Does Mederma work in completely getting rid of acne scars? The first thing you want to do is find out how severe your acne scars are so that you can decide if Mederma is the right acne scar treatment for you. If you have severe and deep acne scars, then you will not be a candidate for Mederma. I recommend seeing a skin care professional to consult with about the different options available for removing deep acne scars.

There are tons of different Mederma reviews on the Internet that state different opinions and facts about this amazing formula that has helped so many people lessen the appearance of their unsightly scars. One important factor to keep in mind is that Mederma will not work for everyone. Each individual is different in their physical make-up and their body processes that just because Mederma does not work for one, does not mean that it will not work for another.

The main ingredient in Mederma is cepalin. This is an extract that is taken from the allium cepa onion. This wonderful botanical helps to improve the overall color and texture of the skin. Therefore, scars are minimized due to the healing properties in Mederma that help soften scar tissue and reduce redness.

Mederma works best for mild acne scars. However, this product can be used on any scar to help keep it moisturized and smooth. Over a period of time, the scar may become less noticeable. You can find Mederma before and after photos on the Internet that show the success in reducing the appearance of acne scars. Applicants should apply Mederma to their new scars 3-4 times a day for the course of eight weeks. Mederma can also be applied to existing scars 3-4 times a day for up to six months. The key is to be consistent and know that your acne scars can be improved.

Mederma is cost effective, and can be purchased over-the-counter. You do not need to see your doctor in order to get your hands on the #1 scar topical that is recommended by doctors and pharmacists. Do not let your acne scars get you down. There are several options available to help you reduce or completely eliminate your unwanted acne scars.

Acne is a non-curable skin condition that every human being experiences at sometime or another. Some cases of acne are mild while other cases are extremely severe. Acne can cause people, especially teenagers, to avoid social situations. Depression and low-self esteem can be triggered by acne because sufferers feel they are ugly to look at and that people will not accept them for who they are. There are ways to prevent acne breakouts. You do not have to feel secluded because of your acne. It does not have power over you or make you any less human. You can have power over your acne, and prevent it before it can even hit your skin. Here are some helpful and effective tips to prevent acne:

A Healthy Diet

You are what you eat. I have said it once, and I will say it again. If you put bad foods into your body, then your body reacts by performing poorly and releasing the “bad” on the outside of your body. Some people may experience weight gain, and others may show signs of acne. Either way, your body is working to get rid of the bad, and most of the time, systems of the body have to work over-time to do just that. This can cause a surge in hormones to become whacky, which then increases sebum, which attracts bacteria and causes acne. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to feed it proper nutrition. Be sure to drink 64oz of water each day to help flush your kidneys out and dispose of toxins that could otherwise cause acne.

Exercise

No matter how lazy you might be feeling, exercising always helps give you a boost of energy, raise your metabolism, and promote circulation to your skin. Do you ever notice a glow to your skin after working out? This is because your skin is getting the oxygen it needs to better absorb nutrients. Plus, no matter how bad you feel before exercising, you always feel great afterwards. This helps to balance out hormones and to relieve stress.

Proper Hygiene

If you are one that does not like to shower daily or you only wash your hair every couple of days, then you could have a problem with acne. The dirt, dead skin cells, and oil of the day have absolutely no where to go if you do not shower and wash your skin. On top of that, if you sweat or just got done exercising and have no desire to shower, then the sweat stays in your pores, causing more bacteria and acne to the skin. Always shower daily, especially right after exercising. This is very important if you have acne on your chest or back. Use an acne fighting body wash to help kill bacteria and unclog pores. Follow the above helpful tips to prevent acne. By taking care of yourself, you can fight off acne and promote clean, clear, and healthy skin.
